This is mainly an informational post. If you have or know someone who has a website that is hosted through geocities that is owned by yahoo, please be aware that the geocities site hosting will close as of 10/26/09. Yahoo is offering geo customers other options, but those who use this hosting service must contact yahoo or log into their site and see what needs to be done.
Please let anyone you know that has a geocities account about the change.

If you type in the geocities.com and then go to the heading about geo cities and click the link on what do I do. Then you will be taken to the page that lists a bunch of informational links on what happens to your geo cities address, how to move your web to have it hosted strictly by yahoo, about the email through geo cities, and much more. It also depends on if you're a regular geo member or a geo plus member as to how things work.
But, if you have a site with geo cities or you know someone who does, better download all files and images just to be safe.
Also the internet archive is trying to archive some of the geo cities accounts so they aren't lost forever.
After 10/26/09 anyone trying to go to a geo cities page, including the owner, will get a page not found error message.

Useful information, thanks. Just so you know in the future, it's not permited to post the same topic in multiple categories. I removed the one under "let's talk" since it applies here more.

Sorry, about that. I wasn't sure where to put this and I'm never sure who reads which boards.
